What is a "Junior?"
A Junior Member is a DAR member 18 through 35 years of age (until her 36th birthday).
She holds full membership in the National Society, State Society, and her chapter, and when qualified, she may serve as an officer and chairman at all levels. Many DCDAR Junior members join with their mothers, grandmothers, and aunts. Other Juniors will start the research for their families’ lineage online and at our national headquarters. DCDAR Junior members are college students, career women, and stay-at-home moms. DCDAR chapters understand time and family constraints and are making many efforts to accommodate these young women. The District of Columbia State Society supports junior membership by encouraging active participation within all levels of the organization.
An informed junior membership is essential for participation at all levels. Junior members are encouraged to learn and to lead in support of DAR objectives. Junior members attend meetings, volunteer to serve on committees, subscribe to the DAR Magazine, and study the DAR Handbook to learn more about DAR. Juniors are very active women in every sense. Many maintain careers, families, and are active in our communities. We host monthly events and would love to include you! Our events are open to Juniors of all ages, as well as prospective DAR members and friends.
About DCDAR Juniors
Throughout the end of the 20th century and into the 21st century, DCDAR Juniors have continued their tradition of leadership by serving as state officers, chapter regents, chapter officers, state chairmen, state vice chairmen, and D.C.C.A.R. senior leaders. DCDAR Juniors also serve as pages at Continental Congress as well as state events. One DCDAR Junior served as national president of the National Society of Children of the American Revolution from 2009-2010. In recent years, two DCDAR Juniors have been selected as the National Outstanding Junior.
Women of all ages enjoy purchasing NSDAR merchandise which supports the Helen Pouch Memorial Fund. Membership is high, 25% of DCDAR members being Juniors. The Juniors continually win national awards for Largest Total Contribution to Helen Pouch Memorial Fund, Junior Sales, New Juniors by Application, and Friends of Junior Membership. DCDAR’s Manor House chapter had the highest number of Juniors through applications in the country.
DCDAR Juniors have replaced the teas of yesteryear with happy hours. Social and service-oriented events are planned monthly in addition to the Junior members supporting other statewide events, including a DAR reception at the residence of the French Ambassador in honor of the Marquis de Lafayette.
